I like not having to worry about spending millions and millions and millions getting ONE weapon or piece of armor to +5 *out of 10*. I'm gald this game isn't just a fake bank sim like other MMOs. Thats all they are, he who has the most cash wins? Or higher level, or better yet spends the most in the cash shop. I like GWs the way it is and hope it stays that way. Tho I would like higher levels.

I wouldn't play WoW even if it was free.

Frist they killed off a great RTS series, and I'm sure WoW helped put the axe to the Diablo series for the time being *if not forever*.

Then they charge us $15 a month, come on Mircosoft...sorry Blizzard what a rip off, monthy fees are so 90s.

Surprised Mircosoft hasn't teamed with Blizzard yet, two of the biggest nickel and dime champs in the land.

Then half the time you'll need a **** load of people to do stuff. Which is just a bore.

Lastly the pvp....I've had more fun with PVP in a F2P MMO. WoW's pvp is a pitiful joke.

Never before have I felt I wasted money on a game until then.

I don't see GWs as a substitute for WoW. Its nothing like it. GWs is more like what Diablo 3 would have been. Or the next Titan Quest since I bet we will get that before the other :P.

Haha, you say there's no power creep in GW, but your icon is Ursan Blessing with an x through it. That's irony.

There's power creep in Guild Wars. Tons of it. Just not so much equipment-side. Damage mods going from rare to common is about the only thing I can think of, and that's pretty darn minor.

Ursan Blessing, Paragons in PvP (heck, *anything* from Nightfall)... yeah, power creep.

Here is how you make money:
Go into Shing Jea Monastary district 1 as a female rit, take off all your armor, and spam in trade: Stripping for 10g!

Everyone is missing the point. We all know how to make money, but he was asking where it came from. Because at the start, everyone had 0g, now people have millions. The answer is gold farming. One guy buys 1 million gold from farmers, then buys something. The person who sold the item now has his gold. Rinse and repeat thousands of times.

I can guarantee that everyone has gold in their inventory that originated from a gold farmer, through trades upon trades. If not, then you must have farmed it all yourself, which is how the gold farmers get it to sell to people anyway.

Then again, I've never been to FoW, UW, or DoA...just recently ascended ONE character with whom I've been able to finish all the South Shiverpeaks missions.

I have TWO max weapons, neither of which are greens. The only greens I've gotten are the crappy one from Plains of Jarin, and Khepkhet's Refuge.

The only place I've been able to consistently solo farm is Anvil Rock, which while stable, only yields maybe 1.5k per run.

Basically, I'm as confused as the OP on the massive amounts of GP floating around, though I understand that I haven't reached most of the places that the money has been farmed from.
You can'tbe serious?

Withmy new warrior(just reached level 20 sat night) I've already made just under 50k playing the game. This includes no farming, andjust selling what drops. Shehasn't even made it to the desert yet.

If you're struggling that bad, you are doing something wrong.

I admit I've had help since restrarting. My guildies gave me free elite and reg warrior tomes, and any help when needed. Depending on your guild, maybe ou should get a little help?

A new char should clear 100k by the timeit reaches Droks/or any other end town.

You don't get really stinking rich, but you'll easily be able to afford that 15K set simply by vanquishing areas and picking up all loot. Including the whites. If you run out of storage, salvage.

And when you're playing for gold you HAVE to play in hardmode now, normal mode drops are atrocious.

To get really stinking rich you need to get really lucky, or farm those "elite" areas.

I would be genuinely pleasantly surprised if this is true consistantly, (not doubting that you yourself were fortunate enough to gather these funds Malice), a few months ago I ran through Factions with a new character as a test ~ I didnt open my Xunlai storage with this new character, and i didnt trade with other players at any point. I wanted to see if a new character would be self sufficient under the loot scaling system, without access to any funds generated by other characters. In essence I went newb.. my findings were considerably less pleasant than yours, although Prophecies is a much longer campaign...

exactly. GW is more about those 8 skills in your bar, and how you use them. It's not about spending insane amounts of time on questing for an uber leet weapon, just to have it shown up by a newer, more powerful weapon in another update. swords are 15-22, casters are 11-22, and that's all there is to it. yes, you can make weapons to your fancy (upgrades, runes, etc.) but the ppl at Anet wanted a game where you have to think about what skills you are using, not a game about how much hours you log trying to get an upper hand on the populous.

basically, Gw was built so that the skilled players actually do become elite players, and not the noobs who obtain great powers from other players without earning them.

IMO the quoted number here is completely ridiculous. A couple of years ago Anet made an official statement IIRC saying something like that 80% of their players had less than 20k total. And there hasn't been any changes to the game since then that would put that figure much higher for those who just play through the game normally to have 100k by Droks. I'd love to see a detailed step by step accounting (detailing every gold piece) of someone making a new character and then having 100k by Droks just by playing through the game normally. Wouldn't ever happen IMO.

You are taking what he said out of context. He already mentioned that there isn't much power creep equipment-wise.

Skill-wise is a whole different discussion.

Quote:

And thanks god, gw1 does not have one (at least as far as equip is concerned)
To add my own little tidbit to this discussion, I've found that doing a small amount of farming during major events (such as the Canthan New Year) can yield some pretty good cash (like 50-60k without too much effort). Doing the quests on even 4 characters can yield some good money while taking a maximum of an hour to do. That's not even counting rerolling characters if you have a free slot to do it. Selling the tokens (or whatever item they hand out) to all the greedy people reels in money.

But also, this is kinda like asking where do the people like Bill Gates and Donald Trump get their money.

Made 100k playing a few hours a day over the weekend without trading with players at all. Cleared UW/FoW, sold to NPCs.

That adds up, especially when people play a lot.

When it comes to gold and wealth and well just about anything in GW most people think "if it happens to someone else it happens to everyone else EQUALLY" well folks it doesn't. I can play for 8 hours and maybe bring in 50k, that doesn't mean you can play for 8 hours in the same place and do the SAME. Luck is an important factor in this game and it's not "just because Joe got one that you should get one also".

Like above some dude said you HAVE to play in HM now to gain income...wrong. You don't. You just have to be lucky and KNOW what areas to play in in NM that have the best drops. Like the other day in my few hours of playtime I got FIVE yes FIVE green drops in this one area in just a few hours maybe 3 at most playing in NM (and even using 3 heroes), not to mention all the drops of other things I got as well. Even got a GOLD drop (shock) lol Thing is I was able to sell 3 of the 5 greens at 5k each and yielded a 15k income in just a couple or 3 hours. I also got the two drops I was after in the meantime. Now, the next person that goes to that very same spot and plays in it for the very same time period might not be as LUCKY as I am and not get squat. That's just life in GW.

One thing that is fact though, you are going to get drops and income when you play, the other fact is you are not going to get exactly what the next guy gets or the guy after that or even before you. You're going to get what you get and that's all ever. So, it's best to quit worrying what the Joneses are getting or why and just concentrate on what you are getting and perhaps how you can increase your income. There are loads of places to gain a good profit income in NM, most people just don't know them or "experiment" in places and take down documentation of how much they make in a run. Those of US who do do that are the ones that are rich and one of the reasons why we are rich....along with LUCK of course.

I see all too many wanting someone else to do the WORK for them and then leech on others experience and come screaming WHERE! WHERE! WHERE! are these places where you make so much money??? Drooling and panting like a dog at the same time. And then of course calling you a liar if you don't produce the information a sceenshot or a link to something. lol Those are the biggest losers I know who try to use that method of getting information. haha

Thats because they waste money on things they don't need. They buy armour at every town, spend cash on sundering mods for a sword. They don't bother IDing or even picking up white/blue drops and don't bother salvaging to sell materials.

I can see that you are at least consistent in your postings. It seems that you have an extreme case of megalomania (A psycho pathological condition characterized by delusional fantasies of wealth, power, or omnipotence.) While I myself have no desire for the elite look, many do work towards the possession of
those items. GW is about having fun and enjoying the game play.

You're talking about a new character...played by an old hand. That means you know how to play well and get the most out of each area financially in a way that a truly new character wouldn't. Plus, when you're a truly new character skills are the most expensive things that you buy - and you've cut down on that cost considerably, by your own admission.

I remember having to save up for my first expert salvage kit. It took me a while. And that it took me days before I had 10 tanned hide squares I could sell to the materials trader, the first time I did it. I can imagine having 50k by the end of Prophecies on the first way through - I had about 20k, and it wouldn't shock me to find out that other people made or kept significantly more - but 100k? I don't think an inexperienced player could do it.

When i reached dorknar's forge on my first character, an elementalist i had enough money to buy both a perfect wand/offhhand and a staff as well as 15k armour. Because of that i skipped getting droks armour.

Everything a new player needs to make money is there, its just most of them don't bother. I have helped many new players and they always seem to leave drops on the floor with excuses of i can't be bothered or my inventory is full.
I tell them they should sell what they dont use or salvage items for materials and the usual reply is salvage kits are a waste of money.

There's a wide difference between an inexperienced player and an undisciplined player.

Undisciplined players buy every upgrade, every skill...basically everything that they can get their hands on (and then complain about their money woes). Disciplined players are very careful with their money, doing their research ahead of time, planning their purchases and buying things they need as they need them.

It has nothing to do with being inexperienced. Yes, experience can teach you discipline, but being inexperienced doesn't prevent that, either.

I tried to imply this, but I should've stated it outright:
I have yet to finish either of the two campaigns I have, so Hard Mode isn't available.

Also, about the 100k before droks? Thats a bit steep, i recently started up in factions on another account and i had 6k by the time i left the island, so i would say id have maybe 40 or so by the end of factions, like i keep repeating - dont ignore your whites!
